Bloomberg American Health Initiative

The Bloomberg American Health Initiative (BAHI) provides full scholarships each year to select master’s and PhD students at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. With a growing library of research, scholars, and initiative-focused content, BAHI needed a more intuitive website that made exploring and discovering information significantly easier for users.

Given the volume of material and the complexity of how content needed to be categorized and cross-referenced, we began with a thorough site-mapping and wireframing exercise to reorganize the information architecture. The goal was to streamline navigation, improve content discoverability, and support users with clear pathways through dense academic material.

The final design extended and modernized the existing brand system, which used a colored dot motif to represent the initiative’s five focus areas. I incorporated this circle-based visual language throughout the site—leveraging color categorization and subtle patterns to create visual interest, reinforce the brand identity, and help guide users as they explored content across focus areas.

The redesigned website presented a more cohesive, engaging, and user-friendly experience while supporting the program’s mission to highlight groundbreaking public health research and scholarship.
